The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans, a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). Despite the success that the team experienced, the Dallas market was not able to sustain two football franchises. In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and was renamed the Chiefs. They were a part of football history when they faced off against the Green Bay Packers in the first annual AFL-NFL World Championship Game, which would later be renamed the Super Bowl.
